Cette adresse m’a été recommandé car j’aimerais agrandir ma sélection de brunch disponibles le samedi. Je n’avais jamais entendu parler de ce resto mais avec un tel nom, j’étais tentée d’y faire un tour.
On a bravé le ciel gris et la pluie battante pour y aller et on était heureux de découvrir une cantine chaleureuse et lumineuse. Rien que leur devanture donne envie de s’y attarder. Les couleurs choisies ainsi que l’abondance du bois y étaient pour quelque chose. La déco était sympa, vraiment mignonne.
Tranches de cake est fermé le dimanche donc le brunch est disponible le samedi mais le reste de la carte peut également être commandé. Une autre très chouette initiative: il y a un bar à pancakes à partir de 15h. Il y a un meuble où sont disposées toutes les garnitures pour les pancakes: sucre, beurre de cacahuète, Nutella, pâte de Speculoos…
Pour le brunch, ce n’est pas une formule à volonté et on a trois choix: veggi, carnivore ou nordique. On a choisi un veggi et un nordique. Tout nous a été servi très vite et le brunch était joliment présenté. Il y avait le bagel décomposé à recomposer selon nos envies, un oeuf à la coque (ou mollet selon nos demandes), une soupe, une salade, des pancakes, un cookie… Comme pour d’autres enseignes, le problème quand on reçoit tout en même temps, c’est que forcément quelque chose va être froid quand il sera mangé.
J’ai commencé par préparer mon bagel. Le pain était délicieux, bien toasté et moëlleux. J’ai aimé avoir de l’avocat avec le saumon et le traditionnel cream cheese. La portion de saumon était assez généreuse pour que ma fille en profite aussi. On a reçu une soupe menthe-courgette, elle était très bonne mais je ne suis pas certaine d’avoir goûté la menthe.
Les pancakes étaient froids quand je les ai mangés. J’ai pensé leur demander de les réchauffer mais en fait, ils étaient très bons, même froids. Je n’adore pas les pancakes mais ceux-là étaient vraiment délicieux. Ils n’étaient pas secs, la consistance était parfaite. Du coup, je ne me suis pas fait prier pour terminer mes deux pancakes et puis, c’est gai de pouvoir les accompagner comme on le souhaite (au lieu du traditionnel sirop d’érable). Le cookie a eu plus de mal à passer car nos estomacs étaient bien remplis mais on n’avait pas le coeur de le laisser seul dans l’assiette.
Si la nourriture est saine, faite maison et savoureuse, le service est plus qu’à la hauteur. Le couple qui tient Tranches de cake est vraiment adorable, ils nous accueillent avec le sourire, sont prévenants et nous ont laissé paresser à table à notre guise.

Someone recommended me that place since I am always looking for brunches available on Saturday. I had never heard of this restaurant but with such a name, I was tempted to try it. In French, there is an expression « tronche de cake » which means « dumb face » but here, we talk about « tranches de cake » which means « slices of cake ».
We went out despite the grey sky and hard rain to get there but we arrived to a warm and bright canteen. Just the outside of the place made we wanted to know more. We appreciated the bright colors and the abundance of wood. The decoration was nice, really cute.
Tranches de cake is closed on Sundays so the brunch is available on Saturday, but the rest of the menu can also be ordered. Another very cool initiative is the pancakes buffet from 15.00. There is a counter where you can find all the pancakes toppings such as sugar, peanut butter, Nutella, Speculoos spread…
For this brunch, we have three choices of a set menu : veggi, carnivore or Nordic. We chose a veggi and Nordic. Everything was served quickly and the brunch was beautifully presented. There was the « undone » bagel that you can compose as you wish, a boiled egg a soup, salad, pancakes, a cookie… Like other places, the problem when we receive everything at once, at some point you will eat something that will be cold.
I started preparing my bagel. The bread was delicious, well toasted and mellow. I liked having the advocado with the salmon and the traditional cream cheese. The salmon portion was generous, enough for my daughter to taste it. We received a mint and zucchini soup, it was very good but I’m not sure I tasted the mint.
The pancakes were cold when I ate them. I thought about asking them to reheat them but in fact they were very good, even cold. I do not love pancakes but these were really delicious. They were not dry, the consistency was perfect. So, you didn’t have to force me to finish my two pancakes and it is fun that you get to choose how you want to eat (usually it comes with the maple syrup). We were pretty full when we started eating the cookie but we did not have the heart to leave it in the plate.
If the food is healthy, homemade and tasty, the service is more than great. The couple that owns Tranches de cake are really lovely, they greet us with a smile, are considerate and let us stay as long as we wanted.

They do but they still taste good and there were enough toppings to choose from.
